Non-GMO Gives You Healthier Snack Bars
Just like we are dedicated to organics, Taste of Nature is also dedicated to using only non–GMO ingredients. In our view, Genetically Modified Organisms have no business in our world’s food chain.
What are GMOs?
Genetically Modified Organism is the most commonly used term referring to the genetic engineering of organisms, including food. “This relatively new science allows DNA from one species to be injected into another species in a laboratory, creating combinations of plant, animal, bacteria and viral genes that do not occur in nature or through traditional crossbreeding methods. No GM traits in commercial production (sold to farmers) are for increased yields, drought tolerance or nutritional superiority. GMO crops grown are bred for herbicide tolerance or to produce their own pecticide (bt) which has created health concerns for those consuming the crops.” Source: Non-GMO Project
In December 2010, we were thrilled to announce that our organic food bars had just been officially “Non-GMO Project Verified”. This means we have been independently verified to demonstrate best practices for avoiding genetically-modified ingredients by The Non-GMO Project and its technical consultants, Food Chain Global Advisors. Taste of Nature boasts an impressive set of certifications including organic, gluten free and vegan and we were proud to add this important achievement to the list.
The Non-GMO Project offers North America’s only third party non-GMO verification. The Project was created by natural food retailers in response to consumer concerns, and is a non-profit organization committed to providing consumers with clearly labeled and independently verified non-GMO choices.
Taste of Nature got involved in this project because we shared the same values and goals as the Non-GMO Project. We feel that it is essential that consumers have the right to know what is in their foods, so that they can make the best informed decisions for themselves and their families.
